Funding and support

Our past and present supporters

The Institute for Aegean Prehistory (INSTAP) and the INSTAP Study Center for East Crete (Publication Team) have reliably supported fieldwork and publication processes at Karphi since 2002. Our finds are catalogued, recorded, conserved and studied at the Center. Staff at the Center and in the Study Team provide labour and expertise as an in-kind contribution.

The Alexander S. Humboldt Foundation and the University of Heidelberg Institut für Klassische Archäologie supported the writing-up of the trial excavations and surveys 2001-12.

The Natural and Environmental Research Council (NERC), UK, supported the processing of radiocarbon dates from the 2008 excavation.

British School at Athens Fieldwork Grants have covered some field expenses and researchers at the Knossos Research Centre of the British School at Athens have offered equipment loans.

The Society of Antiquaries of London through a Research Grant supported 3 years of research 2016-19 on the 1930s excavated finds from Karphi and related sites.

The University of Reading Department of Archaeology and University of Manchester Department of Archaeology have provided field equipment loans and various research grants to assist in staff and student travel and subsistence.

Eco Lasinthos Park, Lasithi, provided in-kind support (workspace and utilities) in 2008-9 and other support in 2021-22.

The Rust Family Foundation provided support for equipment and subsistence for our mapping and preparation teams in 2021-23.

The A.G. Leventis Foundation provided support for our mapping, ethnography, and education projects in 2022.

The Polish National Science Centre provided a major research grant to the project for 2025-8.

The Loeb Classical Library Foundation provided a major research grant (Fellowship) in support of the project in 2025.
